The ECOWAS Business Council has unveiled an initiative aimed at mobilising private sector investment to drive industrial transformation across West African member states, according to the ECOWAS Commission. The move signals a deliberate push by the regional body to place private capital at the centre of its industrialisation agenda.

Details of the initiative were released by the Commission, which framed the effort as part of a collective endeavour to build the region's economic future. The ECOWAS Commission did not publish further specifics — such as financing targets, sectoral priorities, or implementation timelines — in the announcement.

The industrialisation push is one of several active fronts for the Commission. Its Communications Directorate separately convened the second meeting of its Disinformation Working Group, tasked with drawing up a work plan on information integrity across West Africa. The Commission also engaged Togolese authorities on environmental protection and climate resilience, framing those discussions as a contribution to regional integration and sustainable development.

In parallel, ECOWAS has been accelerating the roll-out of its quality certification mark, ECOQMARK, while also advancing skills certification in the field of renewable energy. The Commission additionally moved to boost disaster preparedness and early warning capacity through a partnership with the European Union.

On the ground, the ECOWAS Resident Representation and the ECOWAS National Office conducted a joint monitoring mission of ECOWAS projects and programmes in Benin, as part of the Commission's ongoing oversight of its interventions across member states.
